About The Press

It is a turbulent time for publishing, with the physical nature of books changing, and an unprecedented concentration of our activities and resources consumed by computer-based activities. We see this challenge as an opportunity.

Our mission is clear: to publish compelling, useful, and reasonably priced books in a variety of formats that will appeal to engaged readers both within the Excelsior community and the larger community of book readers. It is our belief that these books will act as a positive force in peoples’ lives while supporting and furthering the academic mission of the College.

web_courag_learningOur first book of 2011, Courageous Learning: Finding a New Path through Higher Education, looks at adult education in America. Featuring inspirational, autobiographical portraits of Excelsior graduates, as well as profiles of non-profit, adult-serving institutions, Courageous Learning offers a clear navigational system for adults who want to complete their postsecondary degree. It is available both as a paperback (with CD-ROM) and as an e-book.

Hudson Whitman will have a traditional mind-set in terms of what we acquire: high-quality, well-written books that appeal to our market. However, our support systems will be more agile: we will be using some of the newest companies and technologies to accomplish our tasks. For example, we will utilize PublishGreen to distribute our e-books widely in both US and overseas markets, and Submittable to streamline our acquisitions procedure. If the industry shifts or offers something new that will improve our processes, then we plan to take advantage of it.

Hudson Whitman/Excelsior College Press is planning several releases in the coming months. Our submissions process is open, and we are actively seeking well-written manuscripts that will appeal to engaged, passionate readers in the areas of health care, military, business and technology, education, and American culture and society. We welcome traditionally written books as well as multi-media projects. Click the link above to our submissions page to find out how your work can be considered for publication.
